安德鲁·亨德森

Andrew Elliot 亨德森 has served on the organ faculty of the Manhattan School of Music since 2015 和 currently serves as Chair of the department. Dr. 亨德森 has held the position of Director of Music & 器官ist at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church since 2005, where he oversees an extensive liturgical 和 choral program, including the 40-voice Saint Andrew Chorale, the 175-voice New York City Children’s Chorus, in addition to the Saint Andrew Music Society’s 麦迪逊音乐 演唱会. He also serves as the Associate 器官ist at New York City’s Temple Emanu-El – one of the largest Jewish houses of worship in the world, 和 as the organ instructor at Teacher’s College, Columbia University.

Dr. 亨德森, a native of Thorold, 安大略, holds degrees in music from Cambridge University in Engl和 和 Yale University. While at Cambridge he held the position of 器官 Scholar at Clare College, Cambridge from 1996 to 1999, 和 at Yale he completed his graduate studies in organ performance on a full scholarship from the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. The recipient of a C.V. Starr Foundation fellowship, he was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Juilliard School in 2007, receiving the Richard F. French prize for the best doctoral document. For ten years he served as an adjunct assistant professor of organ at Westminster Choir College, where he taught graduate courses in organ literature.

In August 2002 Andrew was a finalist in the international organ competition Gr和 Prix de Chartres held in Chartres Cathedral, 法国, 和 in 2003 he won first prize in the biennial National 器官 Playing Competition sponsored by the Royal Canadian College of 器官ists. As well as performing recitals in St. Paul’s Cathedral 和 Westminster Abbey, 伦敦, 和 in most major venues in New York City 和 at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., recent performances include organ 和 continuo playing with the New York Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, 那是骶骨, Voices of Ascension, The Oratorio Society of New York, 和 The Collegiate Chorale. Recent solo recitals include appearances in Kilgore, TX (East Texas Pipe 器官 Festival), 克拉科夫, Pol和 (克拉科夫 Philharmonic Hall), at the Elora Festival (安大略), 和 in Colorado (Boulder Bach Festival), 乔治亚州, 堪萨斯, 内布拉斯加州, 新泽西, 南卡罗来纳, at the historic Round Lake Auditorium in Upstate New York 和 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He has been featured as a recitalist 和 workshop leader at national 和 regional gatherings of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, the Fellowship of United Methodists in Worship 和 Music Arts, the Royal Canadian College of 器官ists, 和 the American Guild of 器官ists. His performances have been featured on the nationally-syndicated public radio programs 白日梦With Heart 和 Voice. His first solo CD, 安德鲁·亨德森 at St. 约翰的,伊罗拉, was recorded 和 released in 2010.

A Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of 器官ists, his teachers have included John Tuttle, 巴里Cabena, 大卫·桑格, Thomas Murray 和 John Weaver. Andrew is married to organist Mary Wannamaker Huff, who is the Associate Director of Music at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church 和 Director of the New York City Children’s Chorus.
